Moody
Radio's beginning
. . .
In October 1925
there was a storm that prevented the scheduled talent for Chicago radio
station WGES from arriving. This opened the door for two cornet-playing
Moody Bible Institute students, who happened to be on-site and could fill
the time slot.

Few would have thought this "chance-encounter" would
result in a weekly show and less than a year later help to launch
MBI-sponsored radio station WMBI, the oldest non-commercial, Christian radio
station in the country. In spite of changing technology, audiences and
formats, the station has maintained a familiar presence on the air for eight
decades.
WMBI was just the
beginning of what would come to be known as Moody Radio. In 1958, MBI
purchased WCRF in Cleveland, Ohio and shortly thereafter, WDLM in Moline,
Illinois. These purchases were the catalyst for a network that has grown to
include 35 owned-and-operated stations in the continental U.S., reaching a
potential audience of more than 30 million people and a measurable audience
of more than one million listeners each week.
In 1982, Moody Radio began a satellite-fed network enabling communications
across North America. In 1997, Moody Radio expanded to Hilo, Hawaii,
delivering 24-hour Christian programming via satellite.
Today, the network includes 453 affiliate stations
and a total of 805 broadcast outlets including translators, Satellators,
SCAs, cable and Internet stations reaching a potential population of
203,485,000 people.
